What a wonderful way to honour the memory of the heroes of the HMS Kent. As the descendant of one of the brave men of the Kent I am delighted to see that there is now a place for other interested parties to read about and share knowledge about the men and the great ship.

I've invited all the other HMS Kent family members who've contacted me over the past few years, I hope their mail addresses are still valid.
There's also a link to another blog where I've started to assemble my father's photo album... well, my granny's album really. Dad sent the pictures home and his mum used good strong Victorian glue to keep them safe. I'm presently 'ungluing' them to reveal what was written on the back. Some of them are enigmatically numbered, but sadly there's no key to go with them.
I look forward to many more postings - there were a lot of seamen on board that ship!

Thanks John, for inviting me to participate. As you know (but other do not) I had an uncle who died in 1910 while serving on "Kent" in Hong Kong. He was 21.

Hi John

Thanks for your email with the link to your blog, very interesting photos of excellant quality given the era that they were taken in. Hope you got my email of some months ago with the watercolour picture of HMS Kent, have added your site to my favourites and will be dropping in from time to time

Best regards

Hey, TopCat Tony, happy you could join us. Yes I did get your watercolour and the picture of two girls wearing HMS Kent hats. I thought I'd replied to your mail - really sorry if I didn't. Anyway you can now post your pictures on the blog here. Click on the 'help' tab for an explanation of how to do that.

Roger, hello. I remember your mail concerning the death of your uncle in a Hong Kong hospital. If you could post more details, perhaps another member of our group may have more information or even photographs of the Kent's crew in 1910.
Thanks to all the replies to my original posting I have increased my knowledge, not to say understanding, of my father's life while serving on HMS Kent. The reason I created this blog is to bring you all together, so that we may exchange the information each of us has in our family archives.
Welcome to our family group,
John
